CHARACTER. tony stark
CANON. mcu

DISTRICT OF ORIGIN. the capitol
ROLE IN UNIVERSE. gamemaker turned rebel
BACKSTORY IDEAS. only child of gamemaker howard stark, tony was born into wealth of privilege — even by the capitol's grandiose standards. his father had designed many of the elements in the games and reached the position of head gamemaker. young tony showed the potential to surpass him. when he was still a teenager, however, tony was abruptly orphaned. "an unfortunate accident" claimed the lives of his parents, and tony passed into the care of family friend, obadiah stane. with obadiah's support and howard stark's glittering record as inspiration, tony made a name for himself designing pods and other game elements the likes of which no one had ever seen before. a confrontation with that year's victor awoke him to the reality of the games — and how monstrous his role.

destroyed by the realization, he might have faded into obscurity in a self-medicated haze except for the truth he unearthed regarding his family. howard and martha stark had been secretly working with district 13, in an attempt to overthrow the cruel and sadistic government of panem. their death had not been an accident, but an assassination. they had been betrayed by their lifelong friend, the same man who had raised tony — the man who, after confessing what had truly happened, informed tony he should have died too before trying to kill him. tony survived, though the pod used, one of his own designs, left him badly injured and dependent on an arc reactor to keep his heart beating. the truth and his near-death experience also awoke in him a fire: to dedicating his life to seeing the games and the government that supported them turned to ash.

    someone please give me pepper
    LITERALLY EVERYTHING.

ANYTHING ELSE.

Character: gamora
Canon: mcu

District of origin: district 2*

*see backstory
Role in universe: tribute/victor turned rebel (down the road)
Backstory ideas: though gamora hails from district 2, aka one of the "career" districts, she wasn't born there; she was actually born in district 10, the only child of a family of poor farmers. gamora doesn't remember much of her early childhood, but from what she does, she knows that, in spite of their hardships, her parents created a very loving home.

her life changed forever when she was around 5 years old, when a peacekeeper (falsely) accused gamora's mother of stealing extra grain beyond her allotted rations, a crime for which she was publicly executed (with her daughter watching the whole thing unfold right before her eyes). these events inspired a small-scale rebellion in their community, whereby the ordinary citizens started to fight back against the peacekeepers. outnumbered and out-gunned, the peacekeepers wiped out everyone in this farming community — save for gamora, who, while trying to fight back against peacekeepers herself during the struggle, had caught the eye of the head peacekeeper, thanos.

he "adopted" her and took her back to district 2, where after his "exemplary" performance in quashing the district 10 rebellion, was afforded a permanent position recruiting and training peacekeepers.

being on good terms with the capitol also meant that thanos had a vested interest in providing "quality" tributes to the hunger games, so on his recruiting trips, he would "adopt" children who had potential, and put them through a rigorous training program. "rigorous" is putting it lightly; he was abusive, and all of his "children" led a very difficult life under his charge, with no means of escaping from it other than to hope to be called in the reaping and become a victor in the games.

though he "adopted" many children, thanos continued to hold gamora in high esteem as his "favorite" daughter, and encouraged the other children to be like her. in particular, upon realizing that gamora had become close with nebula, another one of the children, and had come to regard her as the sister she'd never had, thanos pit them against each other, and constantly had them fight during training for his favor; when either lost (and it was most often nebula), punishment would ensue. this led to a complicated relationship between the two that became more and more torn apart as the years went on.

then came the reaping. when nebula's name was called, gamora volunteered as tribute in her place under the thought that thanos would be displeased if she did not go to the games, but her intent, deep down, was really to protect nebula. she goes to the games, and eventually wins with the highest personal kill count in hunger games history, earning her a rep as the "deadliest victor" and a huge amount of popularity in the capitol — much to the joy of thanos. gamora hates everything about the games, the capitol, and her life, and is looking for a way to make things right in panem.

Plot/thread ideas:
- pre-games/games
- BRING ME NEBULA
- and i also have ideas about the guardians all being traumatized af victors in this universe and that's how they unite and become friends so like let's #reunite the guardians of the galaxy... of panem....? something
- REBELLION... seriously she has no love for the capitol and its friends (aka thanos), and it's not going to take, like, any arm-twisting at all to convince her to join up with this cause
- man i'm getting tired just come at me

Anything else?:
